Ms. Zeddy is a junior majoring in history and political science at Appalachian State University. She is president of the Omicron-Phi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, and in the spring of 2003 this essay was awarded second place at the Appalachian State Phi Alpha Theta forum. Her plans for the future include law school or graduate school for American political history.
